OPEN partners with the City of Madison, Wisconsin on the Building Energy Savings Program (BESP)
OPEN Technologies is thrilled to announce our collaboration with the City of Madison, Wisconsin on the Building Energy Savings Program (BESP), one of the latest mandatory benchmarking and tune-up programs in the country. This is our first project with an American city, and we feel fortunate that it’s with such a progressive of leader as Madison.
The GRID platform will be the technology backbone of the program, and owners of covered buildings will enjoy key benefits including:
- The new Building Owner Portal (BOP) which will facilitate reporting and compliance for building owners
- A full service helpdesk, with support available during business hours and online resources for those who prefer a do-it-yourself approach
- Automated data quality checks, as GRID’s advanced algorithms ensure data accuracy and completeness, minimizing errors and streamlining data management for building owners and city staff.
Using GRID, The City of Madison will also have access to intuitive and informative data visualization tools, allowing stakeholders to better understand building performance data. GRID makes the abstract exploitable!
The BESP will require all non-residential commercial buildings over 25,000 square feet to benchmark their energy use on an annual basis, and those over 50,000 square feet will be required to complete a building tune-up every four years. This program is estimated to reduce annual energy use in the covered buildings by 10-15%, a reduction of 91,257 to 136,886 tons per year. That’s the equivalent of taking 17,838 to 26,757 cars off the road on an annual basis!
